Creating Capitalism: Transitions and Growth in Post-Soviet Europe
Published in Hardcover by Edward Elgar Pub (December, 2002)
Authors: Patricia Dillon and Frank C. Wykoff
Average review score:

Great contrast with DeSoto
By way of contrast with "The Mystery of Capitalism" by DeSoto, this book (read May 28) on this same topic is reviews events after the collapse of communism in Russia and details the movement toward capitalism. It looks at seven eastern European countries. It looks like it offers a more balanced view than the DeSoto book. There are good sections on the issue of property (p. 41) and how those issues are being fought over. In Russia, for example, they go over the various groups that have grabbed the property - ex- communists, mafias, etc.

Patient ants will eventually enjoy higher standards of living than impatient crickets. Optimum levels of consumption are below the maximum - must save for the future. Topics: why private markets work, growth models.

Dillon's Dynamite!
It's definatly a page turner! Great for reading by the pool, just make sure you have enough sun screen because you won't leave your lounge chair until you're done with the book!
The computer lingo was easy enough to understand for those of us not in the computer industry. There were enough twist & turns in the story to keep you guessing. And there were some that you couldn't guess! The characters are very well developed & it feels like you know them. If you like Michael Crichton, you'll love this book!

Eating & Drinking in Latin America: A Menu Reader and Restaurant Guide
Published in Paperback by Open Road Pub (01 July, 2003)
Authors: Andy Herbach and Michael Dillon
Average review score:

These guys want you to eat old clothes (and like it)!
Nothing can make a trip to Latin America more enjoyable and rewarding than great dining experiences. This guide will not only help you find your way around a menu written in Spanish or Portuguese, but will also help you better appreciate the unique and wonderful food found throughout Latin America. You're going to find strange and unusual items on Latin American menus. You probably know that the Spanish word for meat is carne; that won't help you if you find ropa vieja - literally, 'old clothes' - on a menu. In fact, it's shredded beef. And we're relatively certain that your Spanish lessons in school, however extensive, never taught you that llapingachos are cheese-filled potato pancakes found in Ecuador. But with this little guide tucked inconspicuously into your pocket, you'll be able to boldly go where you once may have feared to enter. Eating and Drinking in Latin America includes: • The most comprehensive menu reader available • Dining specialties of Mexico, Central America, South America, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic • Advice on restaurant etiquette • Short pronunciation guides and opinions on everything from what to eat to how to order it.

Authors: Andy Herbach and Michael Dillon
Average review score:

We are the authors. We have to give this guide 5 stars!
Spain is now the second most popular travel destination in the world. Nothing can make the trip more enjoyable and rewarding than a great dining experience. Eating & Drinking in Spain not only helps you find your way around a menu written in Spanish, but will help you find great places to sample the unique and wonderful food of Spain. Fine cuisine may not come to mind when you think of Spain the way it does when you think of France, and you might not pick Spain as a destination for food, the way you might pick Italy. But you ought to. Spain has much to offer travelers, but so many return captivated by Spain's wonderful cuisine and the exceptional dining experience itself. Even if you speak Spanish fluently, we'll bet you a plate of criadillas with a side of kokotxas that you'll still need this guide. There are always strange and unusual items on a menu. With this guide tucked inconspicuously in your pocket, you'll know where to dine in Spain and boldly go where you once feared to enter. Eating & Drinking in Spain includes: the most comprehensive Spanish menu reader available, a great (and down-to-earth) restaurant guide, advice on restaurant etiquette, tips on budget dining, a short Spanish pronunciation guide and opinions on everything from what to eat to where to order it.

Flowering Woman: Moontime for Kory
Published in Paperback by Sunlight Productions (September, 1988)
Author: Mary, Dillon
Average review score:

your daughter (or granddaughter or neice, etc.)needs this
Flowering Woman: Moontime for Cory is a much needed return to the sense of specialness of that time in a girls life when she flowers into a woman. Modern culture often causes our young women to feel ashamed of their periods, changing bodies, and the new feelings. My mother never really talked to me about such things, but she did give me this book, and for that I was grateful. Even adults may find this story healing and uplifting. There are beautiful pictures throughout, with a Earth-religion-friendly feel. I highly recommend this book to women of all ages. Get several so you can share. Bright Blessings

The Ghost of the Moaning Mansion (D.J. Dillon Adventure Series)
Published in Paperback by Chariot Victor Books (September, 1987)
Author: Lee Roddy
Average review score:

Suspenseful Ghost Story
To this day, many years later, this book still stands out in my mind from the D. J. Dillion adventure series. D.J., Alfred, and Kathy are invited to stay at a mansion on the edge of town to try to locate Grandpa, who is missing after investigating the area. Soon after dark, D. J. and Alfred see the ghost that haunts the area. Then D.J. hears its footsteps in the room, but doesn't see a thing. Meanwhile, Kathy has also vanished. Will the boys find the secrets and rescue the prisoners? I love a good mystery and a good ghost mystery. It was a thrill to read on that made the ghost seem so real yet the whole time know it was a fake. I've read this one several times over the years since it was first printed. Definately one of Lee Roddy's best over.

The Girl Who Dreamed Only Geese, and Other Tales of the Far North
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt Young Classics (September, 1997)
Authors: Howard A. Norman, Leo Dillon, and Diane Dillon

Brains and Beauty
Aside from the wonderfully told stories, this book is an exceptional example of bookmaking, from the white on white end pages to the frieze-like illustrations by the Dillons that tell the story along the top of the page. A great choice for a gift book.
